We have all pretty well established that I am a very routined person. I have shared over the past few days a crazy routine that I honestly have thought nothing about, but apparently, it is unique.
I have a long commute. I live in the country, and I have to drive a good bit to get to everything. However, to pass the time, I have created a routine on this drive… Zig Ziglar called this Automobile University. His theory was that if you used the time in your car to listen to audiobooks rather than to the radio, within about 2 years you would have equal to about a 4-year degree.
My Automobile University
I understand I don’t have the same exact routine as everyone else, but I will personally break down each part of my day.
Drive to the gym
Aside from kissing my wife and telling her “I love you,” I have not said a single word by the time I make it to the gym. So I like to get my voice warmed up. This is where I play music that I really want to turn up loud and sing to. And I sing as loud as I can. It is around 4:30 AM at this point… no one can hear me.
I do this not only to get my voice awake and alive but to get me awake and alive. If you are ever falling asleep while driving, I recommend you try this. You will be awake in no time. Plus this queues my playlist up to the music I like to listen to at the gym.
Drive from the gym
This is important. I just finished my workout, I am beaten, and impressionable. This is where I really begin my motivation. I put in some type of non-fiction book… This is where I may listen to Tony Robbins, or learn a foreign language. I need to be learning at this point.
Drive to Work
The learning continues. I stopped by my house for a quick breakfast, and shower, now I am heading to start my day. I continue the process UNTIL I am almost there. When I get about 10 minutes away, I change back to music. You know the “sing-a-long” type that I mentioned above.
This is the most important part. I have literally given it my all for around 13-15 hours at this point. I listen to stand up comedy. Seriously! I have learned listening to something that makes you laugh will help improve your mood when you get home.
When you get home there are people there waiting to see their dad, or mom… husband or wife. What if they had an awful day? You aren’t going to help matters when you come in, in a bad mood. Here is the best part… When you start coming in, in a good mood. You will notice people will be happier to see you when you get there.
I can only hope that you follow this same routine, and enrich your day.
