Well, I blinked and over a month has gone by… and nothing from my blog. So, why did I take over a month off? Well, that is a good question.
I published a book, and well I got tired. Most people think that being sick of writing is due to writer’s block, but it isn’t. I was just sick of creating content. I wanted to edit, and I did. I added a couple of plugins to help me be more efficient. But I am far from editing.
My 3-Year Plan
My blog is on a 3-year plan. The first 3 years I create content like crazy, then after all is said and done, I edit that content. Most people get caught up in a “ratings” war and want views. The best thing for your blog early on is for people to NOT read it.
As you develop yourself as a writer, you get better. Artsy writers (coffee house writers) slam content for grammar, but they miss the point. Emotional content! So, you use some big words and your works sound like poetry, but it isn’t valuable. It becomes writing for the sake of writing.
It is like a finger pointing to the moon… if you concentrate on the finger you will miss all the heavenly glory.
And YES! That is a Bruce Lee quote! Including the emotional content part. If your content lacks emotion your content stinks. Hence why I am writing daily again. You develop emotion over time, you grow more in depth. You shed your skin… and your readers get to see layers.
This is why focusing on readers too early is bad. Focus on content creation. If you focus on readers too fast then you will run people away with shallow content.
Beware of Shallow Content
This is the point of the 3-year plan. You will cringe when you go back and read your first posts, and that is ok. Just edit them.
Oh, and I took a trip. That was another good reason to not write for so long, although it was only a few days.
It was half business and half pleasure. The business half I won’t really discuss, but the pleasure half was awesome. I took a few days off and took my kids to Legoland in Orlando. It was, to say the least awesome!
My kids loved it. My wife loved it. I loved it.
