I wake up at 4 AM. Which I know is super early. I HAVE to, or my morning goes by too fast. That means when I am up, I am up before most everyone else.
At around 4:30 my neighbors light comes on, he too is an early riser. Across the lake, a man warms up his extremely loud truck. Just the 3 of us… waiting for everyone else.
When I pull out of my drive I see a few houses down another man is leaving on his way to work. Then there were 4.
What’s the point?
All of us probably woke someone else up at some point (especially loud truck guy). We stumbled, bumped our knee in the dark, made a sound, or maybe it was the light. When we woke that person up they went back to sleep. Except there is another problem.
They think they are awake.
Living your life asleep
I know that was a huge build up to explain something that we have all experienced. That moment when we are “half-asleep.”
You can’t be half-asleep. You can either be asleep or awake. There isn’t a mixture.
Your life is this way, too.
You can only live your life asleep or awake. There isn’t any in-between. You are mentally here, or you are mentally elsewhere.
This is the reason changes oftentimes doesn’t happen.
Had you rather be stupid or lazy?
I asked this question to several friends and got several responses. It wasn’t until I detailed what I meant that the gears got to thinking.
If you are stupid, and you aren’t where you need to be, it is ok. Because you didn’t know you needed to be anywhere.
If you are lazy, and you aren’t where you need to be, you aren’t in the right place because you don’t want to take yourself there.
Tying it all together
When you are “half-asleep” you have made a choice. Go back to sleep. You can’t be half-asleep by gradually waking yourself. That is all or nothing.
When you are lazy, you are asleep to everything around you. You are smart enough to make a change. You just aren’t determined.
The case in your life to show this is probably your health. When you are old and feeble, you can’t say, “I didn’t know if I ate doughnuts for dinner it would end like this.”
Now I will give you, you may not know how to lose 5 pounds in a week. You should be able to know when too much, is too much.
