Have you ever given the excuse “I don’t have time for that?” Or what’s worse is when you give that excuse then you can’t comprehend how anyone has time for that. Obviously, I wear a lot of hats, and people always asks me how I have time to….
You can fill in the blank with anything.
How do you have time to workout before work?
How do you have time to workout before church?
How do you have time when you drive so far? (I live about 45 minutes outside the “city”)
How I have time to…
I feel as if this post is overdue. I wrote a note to myself years ago to write this post. I live a very interesting life. Mostly because I make it interesting.
When I have been in job interviews I lie… why do I lie? Because people always ask how you are at multitasking. I say awesome! I can do eleventy billion things at once, it is groovy.
The truth. You can’t multitask. It is impossible. If you want to be terribly inefficient… multitask. We as humans lie to ourselves and tell ourselves we can do that. If the human brain was so efficient at multitasking texting and driving accidents wouldn’t be so prevalent.
Speaking of cell phones… another thing I noticed about multitasking was that we also try to use our cell phones a lot in the bathroom. When I was working for a cell phone company I had so many instances that people dropped their cell phones in the toilet. Why? Because they were multitasking.
Focus on the task you are doing, and do that task. As distraction free as humanly possible. Why? Because that is how you get stuff done. Once you have completed a task move on. Don’t start something until you finish something else.
I learned this when I was writing my last book. I had 2 books going on at one time. Well, one got published… the other not even close. I was trying to multitask… it failed, so I focused and a week later I was finished.
If you are going to do something… do it. I was so worried about my first radio interview, not because of the reasons you might think. I was worried because of the time in my day it took out. I just did it. It happened in the window it was supposed to happen, then it was done.
People will put things off like doctors appointments. They will spend more time talking about how they need to go, and putting it off than it actually takes to do it. This is like the high school term paper. If there was one thing you should have learned in high school it was not to put things off.
