I really don’t like the show Keeping up with the Kardashians. Here is the thing… I have never seen the first episode. The idea of the show sickens me.
A family that is famous for being famous, lets us look into their life of luxury so we can aspire to be them.
It is just a way to make us feel better about ourselves. Except it has the “social media effect” on our brains. We see how pathetic they are except one problem. They are rich. So you get depressed when you watch it. Because you think if that idiot is rich why am I not rich?
Keeping up with the Kardashians
We really just mean keeping up with the Joneses.
You know the mentality that since they have this I have to have this.
I was in a conversation the other day about a friend. We were talking about spray on hair. I remember when I was a teenager we thought this was the funniest thing ever.
Well he finally got to meet a guy that was using it. (Spoiler Alert: The guy wasn’t fooling anyone) Eventually after describing the incident, he said to me you know the funny thing is he could obviously afford hair plugs. I could tell by the car he drove.
It was a very profound statement, and I gave him complete credit.
Your car is a measure of how broke you are!
This same week, I was having another conversation with someone about “dream cars.”
The story was that he went looking for a very expensive car, and found out the payment… Long story short, he talked himself out of it.
Most every car you see is financed. So sure, the Kardashians may have something nicer than you, but they really only have more debt.
Car debt will never build wealth, it only drains it.
Think about it… the baby boomer generation is the generation that taught us how great getting into debt is. Now they are starting to retire, what does the average net worth look like?
The average baby boomer retires with a net worth of $1,000
Let that sink in.
They have basically worked 50 year to amass a wealth of $1,000.
That is 18,250 days of work to gather 10,000 dimes.
That is 438,000 hours to collect 100,000 pennies.
Thanks to your lack of foresight and not having savings plans or proper goals you have worked your entire life to have the same monetary worth as a moped sold on Craigslist.
