My wife Amber and I decided to lose weight now, and we lost a person!!! Ok — so it would be a rather small person, but the combined 75 pounds of fat loss is huge! We keep getting a ton of people asking us how we are doing it, but it was never really a HOW for us as much as a why.
The how was easy, we ate too much, thus we weighed too much. It was really that simple. Now we both had reasons WHY! But here are 7 advantages to losing weight:
1. More Energy
I was conflicted on whether or not I should even write that. Energy? Really? It is true. I look back to me being 50 pounds heavier, and guess what!? I had less energy. My wife agrees. You want to exercise more, which helps you lose more weight it is a win-win.
And you will also have more energy to workout, which means you will workout harder and harder, that is a good cycle to be in.
2. Fill up Faster
You will want to eat less because you started eating less. It is really a no-brainer. You also start snacking less, and you crave the what fuels your body.
Eating to live is a different mentality than living to eat. We have created a culture around social interactions having to revolve around food. The first time I went to a “social” and I was surrounded by food, and people eating, and I didn’t eat anything… I knew I had made it. I didn’t have to eat to feel like I was a part of the group. I got to mingle, and talk to more people– all while keeping a watch on my kids. What a better reason to lose weight now than to be more social.
3. Clothes Fit Better
I am a guy, and we don’t throw out clothes until they have holes in them, and just can’t be worn anymore (Or our wives make us). I still had clothes that I hadn’t worn in years. It felt good the first time I put on pants that were a size too small. I have gone down 3 sizes, and guess what??? I am wearing all the clothes in the back of my closet now.
I did have one shirt that I wasn’t able to wear, but it is because I am a lot more muscular now than I used to be. What guy doesn’t want that problem though?
4. Guilt For Not Sticking to It
The moment your conscious takes over and says, “you shouldn’t have eaten that… DO BETTER!” That is the moment your goals are in sight.
People always tell me they can’t get up as early as I get up, or they can’t have the dedication that I have. Well, they also don’t lose the weight. Dedication and consistency are keys to being able to lose weight now.
5. Treating IBS-D
IBS-D was ruining me! (If you don’t know what IBS-D is Click Here) I remember my dad telling me that IBS wasn’t a real thing and I didn’t have a problem. I believe that a lot of people have that mindset. I know a ton of people that struggle with IBS, and the major issue they all have in common… overeating.
One of my friends told me one time that food allergies are so common in the US because we eat way too much. His theory was based on lactose intolerance. He said to try to find a lactose intolerant person in a third world country… you can’t.
I am not certain that all of the above statements are true 100% of the time, but I can say this: For me, IBS was caused by being fat.
I should have wanted to lose weight now a lot sooner than the now I decided to. IBS was a real struggle for me, but guess what? I can say I don’t have that issue anymore.
6. Lower Blood Pressure
I was really starting to have high blood pressure. That was not what someone that just turned 30 ever wants with their life. I thought it was stress. It was! The stress of having an extra 50 pounds of fat on my body. Imagine carrying around 50 pounds… that would put a ton of stress on your body!
7. Lower Heart Rate
Your heart is only going to beat so much… then it stops. That is a crazy thought! Why put all the stress on it from being overweight? This might be the most obvious reason to lose weight now. Take the strain off your heart, help it pump better, and with less pressure. If you lose the weight it will help.
I would love to hear that your weight loss journey does all the same things for you as it did for me.
