Can you lose weight without doing a ton of cardio? Absolutely. However most people think that is the key, and well… it isn’t.
GASP!!!! The man told me that I don’t need cardio to lose weight. You are correct. Let me explain the math…
You lose weight by burning more calories than you take in. You burn calories by moving… sort of.
How many calories do you burn running for 20 minutes? If you are a 200-pound man, you will burn around 200 calories. (Not a correlation, just a coincidence)
How many calories do you burn sleeping for 20 minutes? If you are a 200-pound man, you will burn around 30 calories.
Sooooo…. you did all that work to burn off 170 calories. If you still think that is great, put it into perspective. Today, since you ran, you can now eat 17 potato chips and maintain your offset that run you just went on.
In layman’s terms, you just ran for about 2 to 3 miles only to blow it with 17 potato chips.
Muscle is better than Cardio
To figure how many calories you need to eat in a day to maintain your weight…. take your weight and multiply it by 10 if your body fat is over 20%.
If your body fat is under 15% you can multiply it by 15! The reason?
It takes more calories to maintain muscle than it does fat.
If you ever wondered why America is so obese it is because we consider a healthy diet 2,000 calories. When the fact is that over 80% of our population doesn’t need to eat that much.
No Cardio, Strong Diet
