Taxes are scary. On the one hand, you kind of have to pay them, but on the other hand no one actually wants to pay them. So, I have created 3 plans that will help Alabamians while I am the Governor of the State of Alabama. These plans will help drive revenue, and not increase the current Alabama tax burden.
Obviously, I will have more than just these 3 plans, but here is a sneak peak of the new Alabama tax plans.
Grocery Tax Elimination
There is absolutely no reason for Alabama to be the last state in the US to continue to tax groceries at a full rate. At the time of writing there are only 7 states left that tax groceries at a full rate. It seems like Alabama is always the last to adopt such things. My theory is money hungry career politicians running the state, but you can create your own theory.
The downside to this is there will be slightly less revenue, but only a negligible amount. This will at the end of the day put more money into our states economy and less in the hands of our government.
The reason that the overall state revenue will only slightly decrease is because this would ultimately put 5% of the grocery bill back into the pocket of the average Alabamian, and they can then use that money in other ways.
State Income Tax Reduction
Most Alabamians receive a refund at the end of the tax year. Then the state has to scramble to find the money to give back to Alabamians. If we would update tax codes, and lower the amount that is deducted from every paycheck we will accomplish putting more money into the hands of tax payers, thus more money in Alabama’s economy. We would also create a more efficient revenue department, by eliminating these “short-term interest free loans” to the State.
This would also slightly lower the amount of money our government receives thus challenging officials to use their heads to eliminate the waste that our government has grown accustomed to.
State Education Fund-Raising
I have created a plan to work with education systems throughout the state and create a one-stop shop for all of our children’s/parent’s needs.
With work from each school we would set-up a website where all children’s school supplies can be purchased online. Reducing the mad dash at local retailers all over the state. There would be site to store options with Wal-Mart, or online purchases sent to your doorstep via Amazon.
Once this was set up the state office could then distribute the proceeds of this partnership straight to the general education fund. The initial cost for set-up would be very small, and could potentially drive around 10 times the Governors salary straight to the education fund.
I am so confident that this should be implemented NOW in our state, that I am willing to consult with our current administration and get this project off the ground ASAP.
Again, this isn’t the end all to my Alabama Tax Plan, but I feel this is a great start.
Thanks for your continued support!
