Most people don’t know this about me, but my first full-time semester of college I ate nothing but McDonald’s Monday-Thursday. They had a dollar menu and I was broke. It seemed like the perfect pair.
Years later, I am stuck eating there again. Not because of the money, but because I have children, and they LOVE a good happy meal.
The McDonald’s Story
I was watching a video the other day on Facebook. It was showing all of these ingredients that McDonald’s is using in an effort to kill all of us. I got to ingredient number 7 and realized… wait a second I have heard this one before!
I looked it up and I was right!
Starbucks Bug Story
Have you ever heard of carminic acid? I hadn’t either until I watched that video. This is apparently the scientific name for the “red dye” people are using that was extracted from the cochineal bug.
Starbucks originally started using this dye because it is far more natural and a lot less carcinogenic than the red dyes that are found in the rest of your food. Well, once people found this out a change.org petition was filed. Starbucks then stopped using the dye in their drinks.
The result… their strawberry frap no longer contains bugs.
This was misinformation only on the 7th point out of 10 in the video… so was there any other information in the video that doesn’t just apply to McDonald’s?
The better question would be… would I be writing this article if there wasn’t?

TBHQ… is found in pretty much every processed chicken product!
Cysteine… (not sure why this was on the list because it isn’t bad for you) Found in all soy products
Antidepressants… (yes it listed this not sure why, because it isn’t what you think. These are foods that may help with depression.) Sweet potatoes and Chia Seeds
Propolyne Glycol… (antifreeze) Ice Cream, Dressing, and frosting. It is used to prevent these items from freezing solid. Hence why they put it in there.
Dimethylpolysiloxane… (antifoaming agent) Every processed food ever! Seriously Foodbabe wrote an entire article about it. Don’t hate McDonald’s everyone is lying to you.
Also on the video was Cellulose. I feel that a few of these mentioned along with cellulose were just on the video to give it an even 10 and scare you with their “scientific names.”
Cellulose is in lots of vegetables. It makes you feel full and is the reason you are supposed to eat vegetables with every meal.
