Guys this tape measure test is for you. I am all about being manly, and I think that men should act like men, and have the roles of men. I say that to say this, women can do this too, but it isn’t as big of an indicator, and their test is a bit more complex.
What is the Tape Measure Test?
The tape measure will not lie to you. The scale can oftentimes lie to you, but the tape measure doesn’t. For men, it is easy. Take a tape measure, wrap it around your belly at your belly button. Look at the number.
Why Scales Lie?
A scale gives a data point. Often we like to become statisticians and figure out why that data point is flawed. Some people call this lying, others call it excuses.
See if you get completely naked, look in the mirror, and jump up and down… that jiggly stuff are the lies you convince yourself is muscle growth.
Sometimes as men, we say I am stronger because I lift weights, and that is why I need to gain weight. Truth be told, you don’t need to gain any weight, until you start seeing progress stop at the gym. Also you probably don’t need to gain any weight because you might just be fat.
How to tell if you are fat:
If that tape measure reads 40+” I have bad news for you… you aren’t just big boned.
If the tape measure reads 36-39.9″ Congratulations! You are a dad! This zone can be rather dangerous. Because you are probably teetering on the cusp of being skinny fat, or just down right overweight.
33-35.9″ You are in shape, as far as your body fat goes. You may not be able to run a mile without stopping, but you can get to that point quickly.
Anything below 33 is in pretty good shape, however, you might just be really skinny. If that is the case it would be nice to see you lift some heavy weights.
