You need to track everything about your workout. Have you ever seen a guy that goes to the gym, does the same routine, and sees no results. That is a guy that doesn’t track his workout.
Why Track Your Workout?
Your mind plays tricks on you! Don’t think so? Go to the gym. Do some lat pull downs. Set the weight as heavy as you “think” you can for 6 reps.
There will be either of 2 results: Either you will be able to move up the weight and do 6 reps OR you will not be able to do 6 reps.
Truthfully I don’t know what I would set it to either, but I do have an app for that.
Body for Life
My sister gave me the book by Bill Phillips Body for Life. I can honestly say this is one of the best fitness books ever written. The system it uses to track your workout is amazing. AND it has a guideline for dieting. It is a must read for someone new to getting themselves into shape.
The biggest take-away I had from the book was having to track my workouts. Part of me hated that… until I was about 5 weeks in, and realized how much stronger I was than when I started it.
Of course when I started a new program, I decided to stop tracking, and do whatever this guy said was right. Years later I found that book again at a thrift store. I picked it up for a buck and read it, and thought THIS is what I am missing. The tracking!
I do recommend pictures for tracking. I HATE that part! The thing is though, that will be the one thing that separates you from everyone else. If you capture yourself with pictures or video you will be able to have proof that YES I DID and CAN DO IT!
Remember once you have already made progress it isn’t too late to start tracking your progress. You can always make more progress.
