Who are these people? Part 2 Millionaires!
For you to get this first statement you should have read part 1 found here!
Not just rich people either. These are self-made millionaires. They didn’t inherit a ton of money, they made it with hard work and most of all integrity.
I asked a few of my closest friends to finish these sentences for me:
A shopping spree is…
A 2 week vacation is…
A nice care is…
I got responses like Great! Awesome! Ideal! And Perfect!
Then I asked finish this one:
Doesn’t grow on trees! Is the root of all evil! Isn’t everything!
Wow! That was my response. Why are we like that? Because we have a predisposition that having money is a bad thing. We see the movies, the millionaires are bad people, they spend frivolously, they are slave drivers, and they don’t care about anyone but themselves.
I have bad news too for the above responses… it takes “the root of all evil” to go have those things. Don’t think I am in any way saying that money is evil, because I don’t think that at all. I would strongly question anyone that believes that. I doubt God himself would have demanded 10% to be put back into his house in the book of Malachi if it was in fact evil. Interesting fact about that particular entry in the Bible… It is the only time that God actually says to TEST HIM!
All of the statistics from my last blog were compiled in The Millionaire Mind by Thomas J Stanley.
Just to give you an idea about this book, Dr. Stanley dedicated hundreds of hours to research what it is that makes millionaires tick. Of course I know that isn’t why you are here. You aren’t here for a book report on this books, you like straight forward cold hard facts.
Millionaire’s give more than “poorer” people (as a percentage of their income) no matter their religious background.
One fact I found interesting from my last blog is the family aspect of a millionaire. They have more kids and are divorced less. Maybe that is a predisposition that I have in my mind brought on by TV and movies. It really did surprise me though that most millionaires are only married once.
The Real Root of All Evil
Low debt levels however doesn’t surprise me. Might I paraphrase and convey several teachers and lessons that I have learned through my entire life? “DEBT IS THE ROOT OF ALL EVIL”
I have been in a ton of debt, I have been in very little debt, and I have been in no debt. I can assure I was much more honest when I had no debt, that when I had debt. I know several instances where I hear about spouses lying to each other because of credit card use. People also lie about how much their car payment is, and how little debt they are in. They also always think they are in control (lying to themselves as if debt is the drug they are hiding from the police).
I could go so many different ways right now, but I will let all of this sink in…
